Bleacher...butt we love watching our kids!

The last two weekends have consisted of sitting in gyms watching our kids do what they love.  And we will continue to do this through February, I'm sure.  Gracie had two games last Saturday in Centralia.  Then we had two home games this past Saturday and spent most of the day at the school helping with the concession stand.  Gracie's team is doing really well so far and Gracie just keeps getting better.

And now we start wrestling!

Owen's first wrestling meet was yesterday!  He has been pretty excited to start.  He did so much better than the first wrestling meet a year ago.  There were no tears; no bathroom stops every 2 minutes...nothing.  He didn't seem nervous at all.  It was all excitement.  We were there bright and early yesterday and Gracie even got involved with helping at the home tournament.

Owen won all five of his matches on Sunday.  Four of them were won in under a minute with the cradle as his go-to move.  He went into OT with the second place winner.  It was a really good match and ended with Owen completing a double-leg take-down for the Sudden Victory win.  He is pretty fun to watch and it was so much better this year than last year.  It probably helps that he is one of the older kids in the 8U brackets.

Right after wrestling, we did this.  Owen wanted to play basketball this year, too.  So we are doing both.  He had his first practice on Sunday afternoon and loved it.  He knows most of the kids on his team and they won't start playing games until January.

I had mentioned and posted pictures of the roof being put up on the barn.  Well, this is what happened when the Menards truck tried to deliver the trusses.  I'm not sure what they were trying to do.  Nick was not impressed.

Final Exams are this week at Mizzou, so it has calmed down a lot in the academic world for me.  We'll just be getting ready for next semester and getting stuff done that we don't have time for during the rest of the semester.  Next weekend will be more of the same.  Gracie has two basketball games in Booneville on Saturday and Owen wants to compete in the Moberly tournament next weekend.  Hopefully Nick got him signed up for that.

Only two weeks left until the big day and time won't slow down!  There's so much to do!

A LOT has happened since the beginning of September.  The month flew by, and there have been many softball games, football games, late nights, and early mornings.  What has transpired during the past week and a half was very unexpected and even more overwhelming.  So, just to put it out there, Gracie has decided to take the opportunity to graduate early and start her collegiate career a little sooner than expected... in January.  It's crazy even thinking about it, and the emotions have been all over the place for me.  This was not an easy decision, but at the same time, a decision that makes so much sense it's hard to think twice about it.  So, all other things aside, here is the story... Closure for High School Softball

Wins, losses; we all experience both, sometimes very close together.  All in the same week... district championship win, then 5 days later state quarterfinal loss to end the season. Such a roller coaster and whirlwind of events.  Our girls had a great season and accomplished the goals they set.  District Champs and Conference Champs.  First time in over a decade for Southern Boone Softball to achieve either.  It's not that last loss against Cassville that gets to me.  It's the finality of all of it.  High School softball is done.  Finished.  Complete. Gracie said earlier this week that this is the first time she has been a student without the athlete part.  But what a ride it has been...but there is so much more coming. So excited after beating California to win Districts! The highs of winning with your team. Then, the last team huddle after the final out of the season. Fall Sports Conclude

It's been almost three weeks and things are changing by the day.  The first round of district football was on Halloween, so the kids who did attend had fun with it and dressed up.  We also won, which meant that we got to play another game! Pre-game vs Fulton Gracie and Chase as Lola and Bugs Bunny from Space Jam My dad watching the football game from home. Owen got priority on the big screen. The World Series was on the small screen. Next game vs Moberly We played really well in the first half and were up, but ended up not being able to score in the 2nd half. The last game of any season is always tough.
