October is Here

ISU Wrestling room after 20+ years During an already busy weekend, Nick and I made a trip up to Iowa to attend the Celebration of Life for his college wrestling coach, Bobby Douglas.  There were close to 40 former student-athletes in attendance, many of whom were All-Americans, National Champs, and Olympians. It was a little surreal being in a room with that many decorated athletes, who Nick had the privilege of wrestling with every day.   Here are the former wrestlers who had Coach Douglas as their coach. It was so fun to hear all of the stories and the appreciation the wrestlers shared about Coach Douglas.  He affected the lives of so many and had a huge impact on Nick's life, as well. He took a chance on an 18-year-old who had only qualified for high school state wrestling once, and never won a match at state.  It was most likely because of the coaches and just wrestling in general that Nick stayed in college and completed his degree.  I think every stud...

Closure for High School Softball

Image
Wins, losses; we all experience both, sometimes very close together.  All in the same week... district championship win, then 5 days later state quarterfinal loss to end the season. So excited after beating California to win Districts! The highs of winning with your team. Then, the last team huddle after the final out of the season. The last moments in the dugout This resonates with me always. ...

Thanksgiving

Image
A lot has happened since before Thanksgiving.  Starting with Gracie's new ride...  The Lexus is about done, but we're going to keep it to see if it can last a little longer for the next new driver.  We found a car suitable for Gracie.  She has a 2017 AWD Ford Escape now.  She was so excited! Gracie and Owen taking it out for the first time. Figuring out Apple Carplay.  That was probably the dealbreaker for the new car. Gracie also figured out the app for the car so she can start it from just about anywehere. Leaving the Lexus in the dust. I found time to paint the mudroom. No more yellow = much better. It actually only took a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.  I had prepped and taped everything the night before, so I could just paint.  It had been a long time since we painted anything in our house; I think two years ago when I did Owen's room. NCAA Cross Country Nationals were held in Columbia this year.  Connor Burns was competing for Oregon,...
