Positives

My heart is full after the past week.  It seems so busy, and like so much driving and getting to the next thing, but we are so blessed.  There are not even any huge accomplishments, milestones, or events during the last couple of weeks, but taking a step back and watching the closest people in my life doing what they love is very fulfilling.  Celebrating the small daily victories means so much and taking time to really be grateful, remembering the big picture makes all the sacrifices worthwhile.

Starting with a celebration for one of Gracie's Aces teammates who took a step forward in her academic and softball future.  Lucy will be continuing at Southwest Baptist and Gracie is so excited for her teammate who will be graduating from Rock Bridge High School this year!  Lucy is a great role model for Gracie and has become a really good friend, as well.

Having some laughs

Nick with Lucy
Nick coached her on their team last summer.

Moving on...to the next day

Gracie had the championship basketball game for their home tournament on Saturday, Feb 4.  She had been planning to ask Chase to the Courtwarming dance and this day worked, I guess.  Minus the loss and 2nd place finish, it was a successful day.

Gracie stuck the poster on our front door, so when we came back from her game, it was there for him to see.  He agreed to go with her, and this will be their 3rd dance together.

Then we went and had some fun at the YMCA in Jeff City.

Helping her up after he knocked her down.

They are pretty funny.  He can jump a lot higher.

While this was happening, Nick and Owen were at Missouri Nationals in Lebanon, MO.  It was a really long day for them, with the younger kids starting at 9am, and the older kids did not start until around 3pm, which was over an hour late.  Owen didn't get done until after 6pm, but the meet didn't actually get done until much later.  Owen ended up finishing 1-2 on the day, and did not place.  His last match was pretty close, but he just came up a little short.  I think they did not get home until after 10pm.

Last week, again, there was something every night.  Gracie had a game on Monday, and Owen had practice.  I took Owen to practice so Nick could watch her game since he would not be able to later that week.  Tuesday evening I worked and there were more practices/workouts.  Wednesday; repeat, but Nick had a meeting for officiating districts.  Thursday - more practices, then finally another game on Friday.  Owen and I went to Hallsville to watch 3 games and Nick was in Wentzville officiating Girls District Wrestling for two days.  Owen and I watched the varsity girls, JV girls, and some of the Varsity boys.  JV boys played too, but it was at the same time as the varsity girls.  Anyhooo...  All of the Southern Boone teams won that night and it was great!

Free throws in JV

Gracie in JV.  She made all of her free throws!!!

Posting up in JV.
I caught Chase in the background.  I didn't notice until Gracie pointed it out.
She played a pretty good game during JV last Friday.

After a somewhat late night in Hallsville, Gracie came home and got ready to leave by 6am the following morning to go to St. Joseph for softball workouts.  She road up there with a teammate and Nick ended up meeting her up there the following evening when they found out she didn't have to come back for basketball practice on Sunday.  Owen also had a busy day on Saturday with wrestling in Jeff City.  Not quite as early as Gracie, though.  The tournament was a split session, so we didn't have to be there for weigh-ins until 10am.  He is almost down to the weight that he wants to be!  Hopefully next week!

Owen had a good day: 2-0 and won his bracket.
He was lucky with a bye the first round.

Cradle seems to be his choice move.

Getting ready for the last match.
We watched the other semi-final match together and I kept telling him to pay attention because both wrestlers rode each other out for the entire periods.
Owen just looked at me and said "Mom, I can beat this guy."
Well, alright then.

Trying for the escape.
He ended up starting down twice and reversed both times!

More wrestling in the last match.
And he did beat that guy.

Owen and Hank watching a different match.
He stayed to watch his teammate, Cooper wrestle after he was done.
Hank is a sophomore at Hickman, and a pretty good wrestler.  He won state last year as a freshman.

Owen on the podium.  He looks awkward when he's standing on it now.
What a great kid, with or without the medal.

We celebrated with Mexican food after.
I did remind him that he still has to make weight.

We had a fairly uneventful Sunday, except for Superbowl festivities at the neighbor's.  It was a beautiful day again, and I got a really nice run in outside before binging on great food for superbowl.

I watched Nutter and Ruby play with a mouse for a little bit.
Kind of entertaining.

The past week has been a great week for running!  I have been able to get outside multiple times because the temps have been reasonable.  This was my first run outside after being on a treadmill for two weeks and it was one of those... I couldn't believe that it happened, and felt great!  Sometimes you just have those days and everything aligns.  Or maybe interval workouts on the treadmill and circuits really do help you run better overall.  Or it was actually during the day and not morning at 5am. Could be a lot of things, but it was definitely a good run and I felt very accomplished after.

Look at that!  All miles under 8 minutes.  AND they kept getting faster!

And then there are those days where things just don't align.
Gracie broke two bats last week in one night during her hitting practice.
UGH.  That makes 4 broken bats in just over one year.
WHAT???  I guess one of the bats was over two years old, but still...
I watched her batting practice a different night and it was fun to watch her with some of her teammates.   I'm looking forward to watching them play together this spring and summer (with a new bat).

So, I mentioned, the past week has been great.  We are crazy busy, but I am so thankful for that.
