All in a Weekend

Almost 2 weeks ago, we had a crazy busy weekend with work, wrestling, basketball, softball, among other things.  Mizzou is back in full swing and we started tutoring just over a week ago.  Along with that comes all of the training for tutors and mentors, which was during the first week of classes.  This is always the most stressful couple weeks of the semester for me.  Add to that...all the things that the kids are doing, Nick officiating, and coaching... it's a lot.  Thankfully it's just 1-2 weeks of the semester.  This is usually the time that I get a migraine, as well, but we checked that off the week before, so already covered that during Owen's tournament and scheduling for tutoring.

So, I will just dive in with the events of the past couple weeks.  Gracie has had more basketball games, both varsity and JV.  They added a JV game during the week of craziness on a night that Nick had to officiate in Eldon, Owen had wrestling practice in Columbia, and Gracie's game was in Centralia.  We managed to do it all.  I missed some of Gracie's game, but made it back to pick up Owen from practice, then get Gracie from the bus when she got back from her game.  Phew.  what a night.

Here are pics from one of Gracie's varsity games at Versailles.

Team huddle

That weekend Nick officiated at the huge Hickman tournament in Columbia and i had tutor training on Saturday morning, follow by a date night at the Southern Boone Baseball fundraiser in Ashland.  In between, I managed to take Gracie dress shopping for court warming and we lucked out and actually found one!  Hooray!  Now, I guess she just needs to ask her boyfriend if he'll go with her???  Even though they already have agreed to go.
It's a whole thing I guess.

Next up was softball camp at Mizzou and Columbia's CWC youth tournament at Hickman on Sunday.

Gracie found her friend Ava

They have known each other since we moved to Columbia when Gracie was in 2nd grade at New Haven and they found out they are birthday buddies, but a year apart (same grade).  Crazy.  She has probably known her longer than any of her friends from Iowa.

After this, Gracie went directly to the Mizzou Women's basketball game with her Southern Boone basketball team, and then to basketball practice.

Wrestling
Owen competed at Hickman in the CWC Clash in Columbia.  He won both of his matches, but I was only able to make it to the first one because I was picking Gracie up from camp during the 2nd match.  At least they were both in the same city, I guess.  It was fun watching and Owen did pretty well that weekend.
Good action shot of Owen's sprawl.  This is what he told me:  "Mom, he just kept taking really bad shots, so I took him down."

Owen looked pretty good during this match.

I continue to look at this picture and try to understand how he did this and made it work to get back points.  One of our Mizzou wrestlers, who was officiating that day told me that Owen locked up the "Assassin."  Whatever that means.  Nick said that he could see the muscles in Owen's back twitching from holding it so long.

Good picture of both of them. It was a fun day.

Owen won his pool.  2-0 on the day.

Lookin' good buddy.  You are fun to watch.

Ahhh... morning. A new day.
I can't remember when I took this, but had to add it here.

MIZZOU
Basketball!

We made it to a men's basketball game vs ISU as a family and it was a pretty fun afternoon.  I also got to see one of my former men's basketball student-athletes who graduated in 2020.  He came back for alumni day all the way from Minnesota.  It was great to see him and I'm happy that we decided to go to the game.  We also became aware that our kids no longer have any ISU left in them.  They were cheering for Mizzou all the way and Owen did not even ask to wear an ISU hoodie this time.  We'll see if that is the case for the Mizzou vs ISU wrestling dual in a couple weeks.  Overall it was a really great day.  We ended it by meeting some of our friends and their families at Pappo's Pizzeria.

So far this week Gracie has had 2 basketball games and Owen has had practice.  He was feeling a little under the weather yesterday, so stayed home from school, but seems to have rebounded and went back today.  We have a full weekend, again.  Tomorrow evening is a home Mizzou Gymnastics meet, weigh-ins for Missouri Nationals, and a signing party for one of Gracie's Aces teammates who will be continuing softball next year at the collegiate level.  Saturday is Owen's wrestling meet in Lebanon, and Gracie has the championship basketball game for the Southern Boone Classic in the afternoon.  Sunday = more practices.  No rest until at least March for Gracie and possibly the end of March for Owen.
