Courtwarming week

Oh my gosh!  Three posts in one month!  This is such an accomplishment, and it's definitely not because I have an abundance of extra time.  I'm trying to be a little more intentional about updating, since we do have so much going on right now.  However, the seasons will come to an end eventually (sooner than I can believe) and new seasons will begin.  Last week was court warming week for the high school and Gracie played on 3 different days, for a total of 5 games between JV and varsity.  Then this week was their last regular season game at Fatima, which was a loss for every SBC team that competed on Tuesday.  Such a bummer, but their teams were pretty good.  So here we are preparing for district play next week.

Gracie has gone to both days of State wrestling because her friend Nova made it!  That is so fun!

Freshmen Student Council
These kids have been helping with coordination of all the dances this year and they meet almost every Wednesday morning before school

One of the basketball games last week.
It looks like this was against Centralia, which we ended up losing.  Their girls were so quick and we were down a player for varsity.

Timeout during varsity

Boonville came here to play two nights last week and Bryce and Owen found each other.
Just wrestling in the cafeteria.  No big deal.
I think Bryce's hand has healed so he will hopefully be coming back to CWC on a regular basis again.

Ahhh...Gotta throw one of these in here.

Court Warming 2023

We ended up hosting 6 boys and 3 girls for this dance.  It was pretty fun and the kids had pizza and a couple hours of hanging out together before heading to the dance.  It seemed a little less stressful than homecoming and they all looked so great!

Gracie, just chilling before everyone arrived.

AGAIN...

Here is the whole group.  They were fun!

Chase and Gracie - 3rd dance together.

The three girls again.
It was a little chilly, but could have been way worse in February.

Here's another one of the group

Gracie and Chase again.

I failed to take a picture of Gracie by herself, so I cropped her out of a different one.
I love this dress on her and she loved it too; enough that she says she wants to wear it again for homecoming next fall. :)  She might change her mind by then.

Here they are enjoying some pizza before going to the dance.
It was a pretty fun evening.

Gracie and Chase at the dance.
She said she didn't take many pictures, but sent this one to me.

Gracie and Nova
I love these two.

Last week of JV basketball

As I mentioned, this was their last week of regular season games, and therefore, the last JV game was on Tuesday evening.  Unfortunately it ended with a loss to a pretty good Fatima team.  But these girls have nothing to be ashamed of.  After struggling at the beginning of the season, they did not lose another game after Christmas break until their last one.  They have improved a lot during the season and work so much better together than their first few games.  It has been fun watching them grow!

Pregame starting lineup
I think Gracie started almost every JV game.

Playing defense.  She played the whole first half without coming out.

JV girls 2023

Varsity also took a loss in their last regular season game this year.  They were still without one of their leading scorers, but hopefully she will be back for post-season play next week.  They have the #1 seed in their district but we play at California, which will be tough.  They are the #2 seed and we beat them earlier this season.

Moving on to wrestling....

Owen still loves the Meta 2 oculus
He has been using this for some of his workout time.  He has a couple of games that are pretty intense and he is usually sweating after 10-15 minutes of play.  There was not a tournament last weekend but he has still been working toward getting down to 125 for this upcoming weekend at North Callaway.  After that, district competition will begin and we'll have to see how Owen performs.  He has been wrestling well and is excited to compete!

Nick has officiated district wrestling two weekends in a row... One for girls and one for boys.  This week was the start of state high school wrestling and Southern Boone had 10 wrestlers make it to state; 5 girls and 5 boys.  We were down to 5 total still competing after the first day (yesterday) but it is pretty fun to have that many kids from our school in the state competition.  Nick was invited to officiate the first two days of the state meet, which was fun for the kids to see.  Owen will be a towel tapper for the last 3 days of the meet.  He was pretty excited to do that, most likely because he gets so miss school.  Gracie and Owen both went yesterday to watch the girls compete, and Nova made it on, to the 2nd day.  She lost in the first round, but needs to win one more to place today.

Gracie sent me this on the first day of competition.
HAHA.  She seemed pretty excited to see her dad on the big screen.

They found their dad

Owen is looking pretty official, as well, with his credentials.

Meanwhile, I am at work across the way, just doing my normal things.  It has been an interesting week for tennis due to their coach unexpectedly resigning.  So that has been challenging to sort out and help the girls cope.

I'm looking forward to the next few weeks and watching our kids do more stuff they love.  Owen will also start middle school track next week!  Fun times ahead!

PS:  I am counting down the days to spring break and going to FLORIDA!!!  29 days until spring break.  34 days until our plane departs for Florida. It will be a short trip, but so needed!  There is a lot to get accomplished before that, though.
