Over Half Way Done with Fall Sports

Lots of softball, some football, and more softball has been the story of our lives for the past few weeks.  It is unbelievable that there are only 5 regular season games left for softball, and only 2 football games left after tonight.  There are lots of pics here from the past few weeks, in no particular order.

SBC softball has had 21 games since August 29.  Three tournaments, with 7 games in one of the weeks.  The first tournament was all the way up in Chillicothe, which is two hours away.  We did pretty well, finishing 2nd in that tournament.  Good teams, good pitching.  The next two were ok, seeing some more good teams.  So far we have a record of 11-9-1 and hoping for more wins in the next week. Five more games, and then districts start!

Chillicothe, finishing 2nd place
It was a great day.  Gracie hit her first grand slam!

Two more home games and the next tournament... A little more struggle at Rockbridge.  We played some really good Class 4 and Class 5 teams at the Rock Bridge Tournament.  It was tough, but really good for us to see some excellent pitching and good hitters.  our girls faired well, too in a couple of the games.  We had 4 of our players who hit homeruns throughout the weekend!  We didn't place, and went 1-3-1 for the tournament, but it was a a worthwhile experience.  We got to see a lot of families of girls who Gracie has played with.  So much fun!

Gracie with most of her Little League Teammates from 2 years ago! 8 of the 13 are here.
So much fun to see these girls having success on their high school teams!

Hailey and Gracie bonding before the first game on Saturday at Rock Bridge.
When Hailey is on, her pitching is phenomenal.

We were able to beat Helias in this tournament, but lost to them the next week in Jeff City.

I think Gracie may have stolen third.

Bombs away for these girls!
What a great weekend for them even with the losses.

Gracie was nominated for all-tournament team by her coaches.
For this tournament:  BA .500, 2DBs, 2HR, 6RBI and no errors.  Not bad.

Collage of all-tournament players at Rockbridge.  Gracie is in the mix of a lot of talented girls.

Home Game!  We don't have many this year.

Watching the ball

These games were two weeks ago.  We have been on the road for the past 11 games.  It is pretty exhausting and the girls got a little respite yesterday, meeting with Scotta Morton.  She used to work at Mizzou and is a fantastic sport psychologist, focusing on mental performance in competition!  Hopefully the girls have some helpful takeaways from her presentation.  More softball later in the post.

Football!!!
3 down, 3 to go... Record is 2-1 so far.

First game against Eldon
#32 - I pick him out by his shoes and he is the only player with his number on his helmet.
It's still hard sometimes.

There he is again... #32
Owen was so exhausted after the first game and pretty quiet all the way home.  I think he is having to work harder this year and the boys just keep getting bigger.

Second game at Osage
This game was so intense... back and forth during the 2nd half.
We ended up losing in the last minute 35-34 I think...just couldn't stop them from scoring.

Owen is Defensive End most of the time, sometimes playing Linebacker.  He has explained to me probably multiple times, and I still have trouble keeping up with what he is supposed to be doing.

Always ready to go.

Action

The Osage game was so close and lasted a long time.  We were ahead through the first half, but had a couple miscues in the 2nd half that Osage took advantage of.  Just couldn't finish it this time.  What a fun game to watch, though!

1st Home Game!!!
The rest of the football games will be at home, which will be so nice.  Tonight, and the following 2 Thursdays we'll be in Ashland.  On October 12, we also host district softball, so that will be interesting trying to watch both.  At least they are both at the same venue, I guess.  The next couple weeks will go by very quickly.

And more softball...

A photographer came to our game against California.
They do a much better job taking photos than I do.

This may have been a homerun ball...pretty good pic.
She did hit one in this game.

Good pic of Nick, too.

Amazing hit, but...

Gracie had her first homeun robbed from her at Helias.
What a great play by their centerfielder.  Gotta give her some credit.

Russellville Tourney

...did not start great.  We lost the first game, which put us on the other side of the bracket and the best we could do after that was 5th place.  Unfortunate, but we did win the next two games.  Hailey thought it was a great idea to spray paint her hair and Gracie and Nova convinced Nick to paint the tips of his beard.  Weird.
So glad this washed out easily.

Playing shortstop.
Gracie had a decent day again... BA .500 and no errors on the day.
Bummer that we couldn't pull off the win in the first game.

Homecoming 2023

Gracie and Chase will be the sophomore representatives for Homecoming Court this year.  Gracie talked Grandpa Tom into chauffeuring them in the yellow corvette during the parade.  They worked on their posters for the car a couple nights ago; we had arts and crafts at the Britton house.

Chase is such a good sport

Gracie was pretty excited that I bought glitter to add some bling.

Finished product, but I think Gracie may have added more since this pic.

USA Night football theme

Gracie was all in - she even crafted the hat.
Our football team is doing pretty well this year!  I think they are 4-1!

AHHH...The sun is starting to come up later and further south.
Shorter days, but still many pretty mornings are indications that fall is here.

Another beautiful sunrise

Another sign of the changing seasons to come...
Basketball open gym!
We have told Gracie that all she can do is shoot and maybe run.  No repeat of last year!
That ankle took forever to heal.

There will be a lot happening in the next two weeks!  Stay tuned!
