One More Birthday to Celebrate

Happy 15th birthday to Gracie!  She can finally drive with an adult...legally.  She's been driving our gravel roads for awhile now, but can venture out a little bit more.  She passed the test on her first try!  We had another busy week and managed to go out to eat Mexican for the actual day.

Here she is...old enough to drive!

Pretty funny Gracie.

After practice and dinner on Gracie's birthday, we made a trip to Cooper's Landing down by the river.  It was a pretty night and we got there just after sunset.

The kids also started school the week of Gracie's birthday.  Gracie was very disappointed that she had to spend the day of her birthday at school.  Southern Boone is still way behind in starting school compared to most other mid Missouri schools.

Gracie and Owen on the 1st day
Neither of them are interested in riding the bus anymore.  Gracie's friend Pryce, who is our neighbor has been giving her a ride and Owen conned his Gramma Deb into giving him rides the first week.  Now they both think that's the way it should be all the time.

Finally the first softball games of the season.  After being too hot, and then rained out during the first scheduled contests, they got to play on 8/29.  So far we are 2-2.  Our first loss was to Fatima, who was state champ in our class last year.  We played soooo well against them and only lost 2-0.  It was a great start to our season.  Our two wins have been pretty one-sided and the other loss to Tolton was very messy and we didn't play as well as we could have.  Nonetheless... It is great to be watching them play!

Teacher appreciation night.
Gracie picked Mrs. Morris.  She has taught math at the middle school level and both of our kids love her.  She is now at the high school, teaching algebra, but Gracie was not lucky enough to get her this year.  Gracie has helped Mrs. Morris with her daughter's softball team, as well.

Lake Time!

A day at the lake was much needed.  Thankfully Gracie requested this for her birthday and I was very happy to grant that request.  My parents normally would not go out on a holiday weekend, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.  We spent most of the day on the boat, had a late lunch at Dog Days, and then Owen swam at my parents' pool for a little bit before going home.

Nova was very tired on the way back to our slip.

We get to do this about once a year and it seems that it is always on Labor Day weekend.  You would think that we could get down to the lake more often, but there is always something that we are doing with kids' activities.  I'm very thankful that my dad is willing to take us out, even though it is on the busy weekend.

FOOTBALL

Owen finally gets to play football this week.  We got pictures back and he had his first game yesterday.  It's kind of the same for me this year... really hard to follow and most of the time I have no idea what he's supposed to be doing.  He was pretty excited to play and last night after the game he was completely exhausted.  Here are all of his pics from school.

Looking pretty tough buddy.

Last one.

We all got to go to Owen's first game, but we were about 20 minutes late because they started the game early.  Owen played D-line and Tight End to start the game.  We won 44-14, so he didn't play a lot on offense during the 2nd half and went to linebacker during the 2nd half.  Five more Thursdays of watching football!
