Lots of Fun So Far in May
We are only a little over a week into May and a lot has happened. Since Easter, we have not slowed down a bit. Gracie has continued to have softball every week and Owen is still going to his practices. He completed in a mile run with me and they have had some riding time, as well. We have a new pet, but I haven't taken a picture yet.
I'm not sure if we can call this one a pet.
Owen was excited to play with Mr. Snapper, though.
He needed to go back to the pond.
However, the other pet we acquired does resemble this one. I took the kids flower shopping with me and Owen came across a little box turtle at the nursery. We ended up bringing him home. Owen found a large plastic tote, put dirt in it and has been feeding him vegetables and making sure he has water. He is cuter than this prehistoric looking creature. I don't think we have a name yet.
Gracie was riding home from softball with me and found a CD player in the glove compartment of the Lexus. I had to explain to her what it was and how it worked. It's been awhile since the 6-disc changer was a thing.
Learn something every day.
Softball Continues
We had another tournament last weekend and we will continue to have Wednesday night double headers for the rest of May. We have been so lucky to not have any games rained out this spring. We have had our fair share of rainy days, but only have had practices canceled.

And playing shortstop.
They came up a little short in the tournament last weekend. They lost to the same team twice, both in pool play and then in the bracketed tournament. They played pretty well, though. They were 3-2 on the weekend. I'm not sure how they're doing overall, but I think they have won more than they've lost. There is definite improvement since last fall!

Lights Out...literally
A week ago at their league game, the field lights all went out at 8pm and we had to wait about 20 minutes for them to come back on. So what did Nick do? Well, he started a kickball game of course. Our girls dominated that against the other team. They are awesome at kickball!!

It was fun to see them doing something positive and sportsmanlike with the other team.
Owen keeps practicing
We finally received his schedule for baseball and he will be able to go to 8 of his 10 games. The last two are scheduled for when we will be in South Dakota. His games will be interesting this year. This will be his first year of kid-pitch. We'll see how that goes.

Visiting Gramma Kate
Annie brought Kaia and River down to visit a couple weeks ago and we went to the lake for a fun day. Annie and I got to shop, Nick, Kaia, and River took naps, and Gracie and Owen hung out with Gramma. We had dinner with them and enjoyed seeing everyone.

She's not sure about him.

A little time for horses
We have been able to spend a little time with horses. Nick and Gracie tried riding and it wasn't very successful. However, Owen was content on Dancer.

Mizzou Inclusive Excellence Mile
Owen and I signed up to do the Mizzou Race on 5/4. He ran great and finished the mile in 8:15, even with a shoe lace time out. I told him needed to double tie his laces. He probably could've finished in under 8 minutes if he hadn't stopped!
He immediately sat down afterward and said that his legs were shaking and they felt like jello.
As soon as he could see the finish, he wanted to get there as fast as he could!
Notice the holes in his shoes - we bought new shoes after the race.
The bouncey obstacle course after the race...He competed against one of the students I work with and was excited to have the competition.
And there was pizza too!
Mom and Owen!
This was great and I loved getting to run with him!
After that we went to watch softball for the rest of the day! We had a really good weekend and the weather was perfect.
Next is Mizzou finals and graduation, then preparing for summer school. I get to help out with the SSC course that Mizzou has during June and July again, like I did last summer. This is such a great opportunity to get to know some of the freshmen student-athletes coming to Mizzou. It is led by our staff psychologist and he does a great job helping the students learn what to expect of college and being a student-athlete at this level.
Gracie and Owen will be done with school on May 23. They will also be switching to the Y-Club for summer instead of Adventures in Learning. They have summer school during the month of June and then will spend most days at Y-Camp in July and August. Gracie has aged out of the after school program there and we're not quite ready for them to be home alone for long periods of time. Hopefully the Y program is fun and they will like it this summer.
