Another School Year Comes to an End

I have seen so many pictures of "last days" on social media this week.  I didn't realize the last day of elementary school was such a big deal.  I'm afraid I am not very good at being sentimental, though. Yes, I am so happy that Gracie is going to be in middle school.  She is such a great person/student/everything and I know she has so many more great things coming.  However, she is so laid back about the changes about to happen, that I don't think it's necessary to bring any more attention to it.  I'm really looking forward to helping her through the next several years, because I know they will be tough at times.   So, here she is, ready to be a 6th grader!

I think I'm getting a little attitude from her here.

There have been so many parties, field trips, awards, etc during the past couple weeks; I can't even keep them straight.  I did not go to the end of the year award assembly, but did make it to the D.A.R.E. Graduation.  Gracie asked me several times if I was going, so I figured that is was probably important to her.  It turns out that I probably should have gone to the assembly, though.  She ended up getting several awards.  Mostly for PE.  Oh, well.  She didn't seem bothered.

Thankfully there are other moms who do like to attend school assemblies and willing to send me pics.
This is Gracie and some of her friends on the last day of elementary school

She has really gained a lot of good friends so far here.  I hope they are all able to build each other up during their middle school years.

Another pic of the group.

DANCE!!!

The recital is not far away...just two weeks.  They had dress rehearsals and pictures this week at the studio.  They will have a full day of rehearsing the day of the recital.  Gracie still loves dance and is so excited about her recital this year.  She is already trying to figure out how to make her schedule work between dance and softball for next year.

This is tap.  They are Chimney Sweeps.
This year their theme is Broadway and they are doing "Step in Time" from Mary Poppins.

Another picture of her ballet costume
I didn't get the jazz costume, but will take pictures later.

And... more softball

Spring league is almost over.  We just have two more games next Wednesday evening.  Then all we have after that are tournaments on the weekends.  They are doing much better this spring than they did in the fall.  Gracie gets hits in almost every game.  She's done a lot of catching and pitching.  She had a great game of pitching last Wednesday and pitched almost the whole game.  We came back to win from a 5-0 deficit after she was brought in.  It was good to see her do well with that.  She amazes me most of the time.  She told me the other night that she really wants to hit a REAL Home run.  Not just in the park.  It is crazy that she has that goal, and she is 10.  What's even more crazy is that I think she could probably do it within the next year or so.  I couldn't do it when I was 18.  I feel like I'm bragging, but hopefully this is a safe space and people who are reading this want to know how proud I am, and the awesome goals that our kids have.

OWEN!!!!  =)

Let's not forget about this little guy, who is not so little any more.  He has had a lot going on at school, too.  He earned a couple awards, himself.  Again, thank goodness his teacher is awesome and sent pictures.

Owen's classmates voted for him to have the Personality award.

He also had a couple of awards during their end of year assembly.
Yes, he went to school with his hair like this.  He had a hair cut scheduled that afternoon.  I believe his friends gave him the nickname "Elvis" after this day.  He did not seem bothered.

This is Owen with a couple of his friends at the neighbor's house.  The two on the ends are Rush and Knox.  They go to private school in Columbia.  Kreedan is the other, and he is moving this year.
They have a lot of fun together.
Just call him Nick's mini-me...no smile here.

Showing off their muscles.

School Field Trip!

Owen's class went to Rock Bridge State Park and the Planetarium for their end of the year field trip this year.  Nick joined them for the State Park portion of it.  The weather wasn't especially warm that day, but they still waded through the creek.  I had originally signed up to go, but Owen wanted Nick to go.  Turns out that was probably for the best.  I definitely would not have been wading through the 50 degree water.  BRRRR....

This is also pre-hair cut.  He was a bit shaggy.

Owen with his class in the planetarium.
Kreedan is next to Owen.  Owen will miss him a lot next year.

Last day of school!

Here is another picture of Owen and Kreedan on their field trip.

Basketball???  In May?

Yes, Gracie played in a one-day tournament this past weekend with a mixed group of girls from Boonville and Ashland.  They had a couple practices together before they played last week and they seemed to come together so well.  She was so excited to play and they did great and were fun to watch.  They had 4 games and ended up winning the tournament.  I believe that the total points scored by all the other teams combined was less than they scored in any one of their games.

Playing defense.  This was their first game, and I think that they were actually 4th graders, but there weren't enough 4th grade teams.

Helping her teammate.  It's so great seeing girls from different teams come together to play.
It will be interesting watching them play against each other again next winter.

Defense again.

Helping a teammate again.

Shooting the ball

After their wins.  Four of these girls are from Ashland and four are from Boonville.  One of the Booneville girls also plays softball on Gracie's team.

Picture with the coaches!

Not long after we returned home.
Gracie was exhausted after playing four games of basketball.  She fell asleep at 6pm and didn't wake up until 6:30am the next morning.  When she woke up her first words were, "Mom, I missed dinner."

Fun with the softball girls.
They had "practice" at one of the girl's houses.  They had an indoor building to hit and a pool to swim in afterward.  About half the team was able to go and they had a great time!

They were all able to fit on the slide!

We don't have a lot planned for our Memorial Day.  Gracie's dance teacher scheduled an extra practice for this evening, which I was a little disappointed about, but oh, well.  This week will be another busy week with sports camps through Southern Boone and more softball games.  My mom is coming up to help transport kids to where they need to go.  We have the last league night for softball this week and we will be up in Moberly for a tournament next weekend.  Then Owen starts his games on Monday next week!  He is so excited to start playing baseball.  He hasn't had that many practices because of all the rain, but he is really looking forward to playing.  Nick also is helping with a wrestling clinic in Rolla this week and he is taking Owen to it.

It's also crazy that Summer School starts for both Southern Boone and Mizzou in one week.  We're trying to get ready for that at work, but it's been tough since there were only two weeks to prepare this year.  I am helping with the seminar course again this summer with our staff psychologist.  It was great last summer and I am looking forward to it again.
