Where do I begin?
This past month has been a roller coaster for our family. I will start with updates on Owen. He has another tooth, which erupted on April 17, I think. So now there are three. We are waiting for the fourth to come through, but he just has a bump there right now. Owen is eating more and more real foods. Nick had him eating mac n cheese the other night and he tried some of my chicken for lunch on Saturday. He is not a big fan of vegetables, but eats about everything else we give him. Owen is crawling all over now and is still a pretty content little boy. He is entertained by his big sister every day. He has been sleeping pretty well at night and most days will take two naps during the day. Some days he still sneaks in an evening nap after dinner. He can stand by himself for about 3 seconds before he slowly lowers himself back down to a crawl. I thought he might be closer to walking by now, but he's doing pretty well. Owen has been sick a couple times in the past month. Early in April he had an upper respiratory infection, which he had to take antibiotics for and then a couple weeks ago he developed an ear infectiona and was put back on meds. He has been pretty happy despite being sick. Just a little more fussy and whiney than usual.
Gracie is doing great. She can ride her bike (with training wheels) all by herself and we have had to raise the seat twice for her. She loves being able to play outside again and we are starting to have to give her baths everyday. She doesn't need a pull up anymore at night and has had very few accidents. She is starting to struggle againg with going to bed and sleeping in a little bit because it is light for so long during the day. It is not nearly as bad as it was a year ago at this time, though, when she was crying every night for awhile. She has been working on days of the week, months of the year, among other things at school. She is able to tell us that she is 2 years old and her birthday is August 30 and she will be 3. She tells us who her friends are at school and how old they are. She loves watching the movies "Monsters Inc," "Barnyard," "Shrek" and "Elmo." She asks for one of them almost every night, but we try to limit it to just two or three nights a week, which is not hard now that it is starting to get nice out.
Now for the rest of our life...A lot has happened since my last post. Nick and I no longer own a home in Huxley. We moved out very suddenly on April 27. We thought we would be able to push our closing date back, but we found out this would not work about a week before we had to be out. We are now residing with my Grandma in Grimes until June 1. So we were moving over Easter weekend. We were able to celebrate Easter at his mom's with an egg hunt for the kids, but the rest of the weekend was dedicated to moving all of our stuff into storage sheds. After a lot of time spent searching, we have found an apartment that will accept Jasmine and will allow a 6 month lease. So, after June 1 we will live on the north side of Ankeny for 6 months. I am looking forward to this so much! I love my Grandma, but we need our own space and I'm sure my grandma needs hers. The complex we will live in has a pool, fitness center, and many other amenties, which will be very convenient. It is less than ten minutes from Huxley, so work and daycare will not be a problem. We will be in a brand new unit, which is very appealing to me.
In the mean time, we have been talking with our realtor and a builder about the possibility of building on the north side of Huxley. I almost don't want to mention it, because I am so worried that it won't work out. We have gone back and forth between building and buying for the past several months and are trying to do the right thing for us. Hopefully everything will be decided by the end of the week. At least by then we should have a plan and a weight will be lifted off our shoulders.
I am almost half way through my first grad school class and the amount of time spent doing that has been more than I anticipated. I don't think I have had more than six hours of sleep at at time in the past four weeks. It is very exhausting and I have decided that I won't be able to do more than one class at a time. At least not for the first year. I am looking forward to the three weeks I have in between classes. I have one of my three major projects done, so two to go. I keep telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end.
I am still planning on doing Dam to Dam this year and did a long run over the weekend, which I thought was going to kill me. I am so thankful that Nick doesn't mind me leaving for a couple hours to go run.
So, we have been very busy, and like I said, it has been a roller coaster of a month; one thing after another. I am hoping the near future involves decisions being made and some much needed stability in our lives. Our kids have been handling all this very well. Probably better than I have. Gracie tells us that we have sold our house so we get to stay at Grandma Jeanne's and we will get a new house. We have tried to be as consistant as possible with our schedule, it has just changed a little bit with the drive time to work now.
We don't have a lot planned for the upcoming weekend, which is nice. I will probably try to get another long run in and possibly take the kids to see Gramma Deb again. The following weekend is graduation weekend, so we will have plenty of open houses to attend and we also have one wedding to go to. The week after that is my last week of school, then I will only be working part time for summer classes. I am looking forward to that! I don't have my camera with me and I will be lucky to find the cord to upload pictures. But hopefully I can get some new ones on here soon.
