Home Again, But Not For Long
When we returned, we hit the ground running again on Monday morning. Owen had weights and football at 6am, and Gracie also had a few days of weights and basketball open gym before leaving again for Kansas City/GA. Softball practice on Thursday evening then early morning flight Friday. Gracie also got to see Kirsten Dell for an evening. She went over to hit with her before the next tournament. I think it was good for both of them to see each other.
Home.
I can't remember the last time our lilies have survived the deer.
I'm not sure why the deer are leaving them alone this year but not complaining.
We came back to a very overgrown yard with lots to do.
Georgia
Georgia was a little complicated. It was a team trip, so parents didn't travel with them and they flew out of KC. Nick and his mom left Thursday morning in her RV, and I drove Gracie over to practice that afternoon. She stayed with Kali again both that night and the night they returned from GA. It turned into a very long day for me, and I finally arrived back at home around 12:30am. I'm pretty sure the girls did not get much sleep either. I stayed home with Owen over the weekend and we watched the girls play on Gamechanger. They had 8 games and only lost one in pool games. Then won 4 games on Sunday to take the championship for the 2nd year in a row! This was a $ tournament and the winning organization took home $10k. Will we ever see that??? Heck no. However, it was nice to not see a message requesting additional payment for travel fees.
Winners!
This team is incredible!
Flying home
Addie, Ella, Gracie
The team caught a flight on Sunday evening after they were done playing and Nick flew back to KC on Monday morning. Gracie had practice again at 9am and was done around noon. I picked both of them up, we grabbed some lunch, then headed back to Ashland again. I think they were tired after the whirlwind of a trip.
We've got a sleeper
And another one.
The conversation on the drive home was very minimal.
Meanwhile... back on the homefront.
Owen had football things all week, helping out with the youth camp a couple days. Then just more early morning weights and practices.
Helping out at SBC football youth camp
More football activities
I've been going running out by our house quite a bit, and there have been a couple evenings that were beautiful, but still really hot, sticky, and uncomfortable.
Sunsets...
Before Gracie left for her last tournament in Indiana, she spent a day with Chase and his family. They went to watch his sister play basketball then went to Top Golf.
There was also an evening spent going out with friends, and staying with Nova. Gracie tried to do as much as she could during the one week that she was here. Then, less than a week after getting back from Georgia, Gracie and Nick left for Indianapolis. I stayed home to work, and Owen had his football practices and a scrimmage in Mexico.
Here he is.
It took awhile for me to pick him out; they all look the same with no numbers and helmets on.
He played a lot of varsity defense and went in in on offense, as well.
It was fun to watch and he is not looking small anymore.
Always thankful for an event without an injury.
Outside linebacker, I believe.
I keep trying to learn.
This is what rolled in while the boys were playing.
I was a little thankful. I think they would have been there until after 10pm if it hadn't stormed. I left by 8pm and I think the team left shortly after that. At least they had a couple hours to play. After watching them play, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing more this fall!
During the day on that Thursday, I watched/listened to 3 softball games. The Aces had to win all 3 to make it to the Elite 8 the following day. And they did! I had told Gracie that if they made it to Friday, I would drive out to watch the rest of the tournament. So. 11:30 ET game on Friday = very early start to the day. I left before 4am CT on Friday morning and made it there by game time. More to come on softball. They had quite a week!
