Slowing/Winding Down Fall Activities
The past couple weeks have slowed a little with fall seasons coming close to the end. We have been able to do some things that time does not allow for in the middle of crazy sports schedules for school. Halloween fun with friends, trip to Iowa, a little bit of home time, Mizzou football. All fun things that we finally had some weekend time for.
Last weekend we spent Sunday afternoon at our neighbors watching the Chiefs play and then the kids carved pumpkins for some Halloween fun. Not quite as many as a couple years ago, but they had a lot of fun! It was great to get together with friends.
I just want to point out Owen's leg in the previous pictures! No boot! He was cleared for freedom on 10/23!!! Pretty exciting after 8 weeks of restriction. I know it will be slow getting back to where he wants to be, but I'm so happy that he can start moving forward again! He had been taking the boot off while at home, but hadn't really been moving around a lot without it. They didn't prescribe any PT, but gave him a tighter band for exercises to increase strength, mobility, and flexibility. I think he has been a little frustrated this past week with the stiffness he feels, but he will keep working on it. Football is pretty much done for JV, so he won't be able to do much there for the rest of the season, but hopefully when wrestling starts in a few weeks he will be ready to go.
The end of the softball season came so quickly. It's such a short amount of time packed with a lot of games. We had 31 games in 7 weeks. Crazy. We played Mexico and Palmyra on Homeoming weekend, had 2 more games the following week, senior night and then districts. Gracie broke the single season homerun record again in the game against Palmyra, but then didn't hit another one after that. She went over .500 for the rest of the season but no more HR to add.
Senior night and district week was pretty busy getting things ready. The game against Osage was a lot closer than it should've been, but oh, well.
I don't know if slowing down is quite the right title, but life has felt a little more manageable during the past week or so. We have been able to do things that we aren't able to when sports are in full force. We still have a lot going on, but it's a different pace when sports schedules are not dictating all of it. That will probably not last, as Aces have 3 tournaments and basketball and wrestling are just around the corner.

Final products of pumpkin carving
Lights out.
Gracie's pumpkin was a group project.
She is not particularly fond of cleaning out the inside and Aiden B offered to help.
then she recruited her brother for his drawing skills
But she was determined to do the carving herself.
Kate also participated.
Dinosaur for the win.
Looks great.
Mizzou Homecoming!
We have 4 tickets for football games, but I could tell that Gracie really wanted to take Chase and he wanted to go to a game. I don't think he was disappointed and Nick was the right choice to take them and entertain them. They all had a great time and I got some things done at home and watched the game in my living room.
Gracie's favorite coach.
I'm so happy they got to see each other!
Chase and Gracie on the field.
It's great that Nick has connections. What a beautiful day.
When they got home, I think everyone was tired. Nick and Gracie both fell asleep and I think Owen either watched a movie or played games on his phone for an hour. Then Owen went over to a friends house for the night and Gracie hung out with Chase at his house with their family.

His friend, Rowan, broke his finger, so here they are on the sidelines at football.
No boot!!!
Senior night and districts
Senior night and district week was pretty busy getting things ready. The game against Osage was a lot closer than it should've been, but oh, well.
Last regular season home game.
Gracie with a couple of seniors on senior night.
Good work junior class
The girls have taken a few days to make/buy gifts for their senior teammates and have sent them off appropriately. I suppose we'll be doing this for basketball in a few short months.
Shawley takes some pretty good pictures.
He made it to a few games this year.
Good play at shortstop.
We made goodie bags again for districts this year.
Nick even helped put them together. :)
He doesn't look very excited to be tasked with gluing.
Districts did not go how we envisioned. Our starting pitcher sprained her ankle a week prior, and was definitely not 100%. We didn't play very well at all, and Gracie did not get to see 1 pitch in 3 plate appearances. They did not pitch to her, and the rest of the team only produced 2 hits, with 4 errors. The whole night was pretty frustrating. Needless to say, we did not win and our district run was very short-lived.
Gracie's first plate appearance in the last game.
She was ready, but they didn't want her to hit. I can't even imagine how disappointing this probably is for her. All she wants to do is play.
I have a lot of thoughts about this, but I mostly keep them to myself.
So, anyway. That is where it ended this year. It seemed very incomplete; unfinished. Last year, I think Gracie was done after districts and didn't really want to continue with more fall softball, but this year, it seems different. She seems to want more. Hopefully she can complete the fall on a high note in the next few weeks with the Aces team. That is already starting...
Iowa!!! We got to go up for a day and watch River play football and celebrate Annie's birthday with her! It was a short, fun trip and I'm glad it worked out!
Margaritas and a sombrero for the bday girl!
What a fun night!
The dogs are so cute together.
Kaia...safety first.
Cousins pic after River's game.
Oops... looks like my finger snuck into the picture.

Friday is the last varsity football game of regular season, then they will start post-season next week. Gracie has Aces practice in KC all day on Saturday. Dead week for winter sports next week, then basketball starts on 11/4. Gracie will go to Dalton, GA, St. Louis, and Naples, FL for her fall softball season. Owen starts wrestling on 11/11; Nick moves on to coaching that. November will be a blur, I am certain, with lots of different schedules to juggle.
