Summer is Gone
Mizzou started classes over a week ago, and the kids started school this week. Finally. Owen has a new look with added accessories. More on that further down. Gracie has done another softball camp, they took a float trip with friends, birthdays are here, we had a visit from grandma Deb; there was a lot going on all around in the past week and a half.

First day of school 2024

More fun on the boat with cousins
Float Trip on the river
Nick and the kids made a trip to Huzzah (no idea where this is) to float a river and I think they had a great time. I spent the day working and getting ready for Mizzou's fall semester. We had team meetings for sports and a welcome back event at the sports complex. I am never available for end of summer fun at this time. But anywhooo... there was a large group that went floating and judging by the pictures everyone had a great time!
Bus ride to the boat launch
What a group.
freshmen boys' raft plus Rush, maybe. I really can't tell who all those boys are.

Next on the agenda: HAIR
One of Gracie's bday gifts was a two hour appointment at the salon to give highlights a try. She was pretty excited and the results are amazing. It looks so good!
Processing
Very beautiful
I LOVE IT.
Makes me kind of want to try it out.
Oh... Owen got his hair cut too. It took about 10 minutes compared to Gracie's 2 hours.
Happy Birthday Owen!
Deb arrived on Thursday, and that was the only evening that we were all home, so we celebrated a few days early. Owen had his traditional oreo cake and he opened presents.
#14!!!
Gifts for Owen
Nick wanted to try the Beats.
Owen seems satisfied with the new book
Ruby wanted to join the fun.
Friday Football Jamboree
We went to the first football jamboree against both Jeff City and Warrenton. They started with Varsity series, then did JV. Owen got in on the first JV series/snaps, but didn't last long. On the third play he was stopped by a very large lineman who ended up on top of him. So, long story short, we are at the beginning of healing and recovering from fractured tibia and fibula. First major injury for Owen. I guess there is never a good time, but crutches are typically not what anyone wants for their birthday.
Owen getting help off the field
Not very comfortable or happy, I'm sure.
Meeting with Alicia and Nick toward the end of the scrimmages.
Alicia works with SBC as the trainer for a lot of sports.
She helped when Gracie sprained her ankle pretty bad a couple years ago.
This doesn't look good at all.
I had this bad feeling as soon as he got his cleat and sock off at home.
It just looked so different from anything I had seen. Very acute swelling and no bruising at all. Owen was not able to put any weight on it and looked to be in a lot of pain with any movement.
I also knew it wasn't good when he didn't finish his ice cream and didn't want the Chick-fil-A sandwich that Gracie brought home for him. He was very quiet pretty much all weekend and didn't want to do anything. We gave him tylenol/ibuprofen to help with pain and tried to make him comfortable to sleep. I had to work on Saturday morning and Nick had to coach a softball scrimmage, but as soon as that was done, Nick brought Owen up to Columbia to urgent care. They confirmed a Salter-Harris fracture on both tibia and fibula. Right at the growth plate. We scheduled a follow up appointment with an orthopedic doctor for Monday morning.
At urgent care after x-rays
Getting wrapped up again.
The good thing was that after immobilizing his ankle/leg, Owen was much more comfortable.
Xrays of Owen's ankle.
I can't really read it, but it is broken.
Different view
Thankfully during the follow up appointments this week, they confirmed that he does not need surgery and he was put into a hard cast today (Wednesday). Nothing too crazy, but he will have a recheck four weeks from today to see how it is healing.
I mentioned that Nick and I both had some obligations over the weekend. I came home as soon as I could after leading the new tutor training for our academics program, and then Nick left with Gracie for Oklahoma. Owen and I watched movies and had a very uneventful Saturday. Again, he was very quiet, and didn't want to do much, including eat. He did giggle a little bit while watching his youtube shorts.
OKLAHOMA!!!
Gracie's travel coaches got her into a camp at OU. She was let in at the last minute and I believe had a great time during the three hours she had to work out/scrimmage at the OU softball facilities. Nick and Gracie got to Norman around 10pm and started camp at 9am the next morning. Almost 14 hours in the car for a 3 hour visit to OU. I think the drove through Stillwater on the way back so she could see OSU's campus as well.
Weird. She's sleeping again.

Gracie and JT - Assistant coach
Thumbs up for a good experience.
She's actually awake.
This might be the last softball recruiting camp she goes to before recruiting opens up for her class in less than a week. WOW. We are almost there. So much happens in the next week or so.
The actual Birth Day
Light up balloons for Owen on his day.
I hope he could at least smile about something.

SBC Softball is loading!
We have pictures and the first game is almost here. We scrimmaged at the Linn Jamboree Tuesday night for a little preseason competition. We did pretty well and I'm so excited to see these girls play for real.

My two favorites of the team
The first week of school is almost done already (pretty short week; they have Friday off). Mizzou's first home football game is tonight and Gracie finally turns 16 tomorrow. Nick is taking her to take her driving test and we have a pretty full weekend. First home HS football game tomorrow night, softball tournament on Saturday, rest day on Sunday, back at practices Monday. Let the fun and busy times begin.
