June is Here.

It seems that every June is a little crazier than the last.  This one has come and will be gone before we know it.  I think the only difference this year is that Owen is not in baseball, so you would think it could be a little more manageable.  Right now we have two softball team schedules, two basketball team schedules, weights for our kids at different times, of course, wrestling, and a lot of travel.  We fit a trip to Iowa in, too.  Just two weeks into the month and we have been to Kansas City twice and Iowa once, now to Tennessee for a fun-filled softball week.  We will just be missing Owen.  I'll pick up where we left off...

The first week after school ended was busy, and then we left for Iowa.  We celebrated Kaia's birthday and went to her dance recital.  We got to see a lot of family and friends while we were there. We had a fun day on 4 wheelers and dirt bikes, with cake to go with it for the birthday girl.  It was a good day.

Gracie gave a ride on the 4-wheeler
River and Owen drove the dirt bikes per usual.

DANCING

Kaia looks pretty happy and she did a great job.
She was ready to get out of there, though.  It might be her only recital.

On a different note...
I found a pic from the beginning of the school year and compared it with the end.
There has been considerable physical growth with one of these children.

Southern Boone Softball Camp

Gracie helped out again this year with camp for the younger kids.  Nick also had a big part of it this year, being the new head coach.  Three days of a lot of softball.

This is Ellison, Chase's younger sister.

Then Wednesday night games.
These are all Aces girls... Cap City vs. SBC
Fun times.

Gracie with Lydia

And some basketball...
Southern Boone has player development twice weekly and they are expected to get 10,000 shots for practice by the end of July.  They are also scheduled for 2 shootouts for the team, but Gracie can only go to one of them, which already happened.  The other one is scheduled while we're in Tennessee, but I think it actually was canceled.  So maybe they'll get one in July that Gracie can go to.  Probably not, though.  She has also been going to the Cougars practices on Tuesdays after she has her hitting lesson.  Tuesdays are a busy day for her.

Gracie's competition at the shootout SBC attended in Farmington.
I would say the other team had a little height advantage.  We still won.  I think they had a pretty good turnout and ended the tournament 4-2.  Then we headed to KC for another softball tournament.  She had to miss two of those pool play games because she was playing basketball on the other side of the state.

In the meantime...

My parents came to watch a Wednesday night of SBC softball on June 7 and stayed the night.  The next day they took Owen back to the lake with them to let him have fun while we went to KC with Gracie for softball.  They also took Ruby with them so they could take care of her while we were traveling.  I think Owen was spoiled and had a lot of fun at the lake.  They took him to the car show and Malted Monkey to do the high ropes courses again.  They also went to Dog Days to watch the dog jumping contest.

In the air.  He definitely has fun!

The softball weekend ended a little early for us, as Sunday bracket play was rained out.  That was unfortunate.  The girls did really well in pool play and probably could have had a chance at winning the tournament...we'll never know.  There was a little rain on Saturday during our two games, but it rained so much over night and we were on dirt fields.  :(  So we went to pick up Owen and get other things done on Sunday while we had the day off.  More to do during the next week.

Bentlage Boys
I just love these boys
Our wonderful neighbors give rides and Kellen's dad dropped them off at the end of our gravel road after their weights workout last week.  They got over a mile run in.  Way to do more!  Unfortunately, Rowan couldn't run with them because his back is hurt.  He got a ride back home.
When I saw this picture, I couldn't believe how much taller Owen is than Knox.

More softball... TEAM 1 Invitational in KC/Kansas

These girls went to the Team 1 camp in Kansas for a day.
Gracie, Sadie, and Madigan.

Last Wednesday the Team 1 event started with camp and then tournament play began on Thursday.  We were unlucky and had 8am games every day.  Gracie drove back with her teammates on Wednesday evening and then she and Nick left really early on Thursday morning to get back to Kansas for their 8am game.  We stayed the next two nights in a hotel.  Owen and I drove over separately after work.  They were 2-0 after the first day and had another 8am game on Friday.  We lost that game to a Kansas Bombers team and then tied the next game.  We ended up 2nd in our pool, but unfortunately drew another 8am bracket game.  UGH.  We won the early bracket game, but lost the next game against a pretty good team from Indiana.  Several of their players were already commits to D1 and D2 programs.  Anyhoo... It was only a 6 game guarantee, so after we lost, we were done.  We headed back to Ashland and had another Sunday free.  However, on Sunday, it rained again, so the whole tournament was rained out.. again.

Homerun girls of the weekend.
Gracie, Sadie, and Brooklyn.

Gracie played a lot of shortstop over this past weekend.
I don't think she had any errors, which is fantastic.

On third after one of her two triples

I think she's actually smiling at me. 💗
This doesn't happen very often in games.

While Gracie and Nick went to watch other teams play softball, Owen and I went for a run and then swam in the pool.  He ran/walked (mostly ran) 3 miles with me and the pool felt amazing after the 90 degree sweaty run.  At least it wasn't humid.  It could have been way worse.  It was great having his company over the weekend.  He actually thought he could swim faster than me, too.  He was wrong.  He may be able to run a mile faster, but not a better swimmer yet. (not that I'm super fast at swimming)

After the tournament we returned home to do laundry and get Owen ready for his week-long camp at Mizzou.  I am missing him while we are in Tennessee, but he was so excited to wrestle all week in Columbia.  When I gave him this option, I didn't really think he would agree to doing this instead of coming to Chattanooga with us, but there he goes.  He is on his own at the dorms all week and working out 6 hours/day.  He gets his own room, but shares a common space/bathroom with 3 other wrestlers, I think.  I think one is from Alabama and one is from Maine and they are both upperclassmen in high school.  At least he has his ipad with him so he can call us, which he has done in between every session.  When he leaves for Camp Awesome in August, he will not have any communication with us for over 5 days.  I think he is doing pretty well; 4-2 in the dual wrestling part for team camp.  Team camp ends Wednesday then they start the Tigerstyle 30 camp for individual training Thursday.  He said he is having fun and is glad he is there.

Owen... ready to go

Packing up

I was having very mixed feelings about leaving him behind while we head over 8 hours away to Tennessee.  He had no hesitation with staying behind to wrestle all week, though.  There are people in Columbia he can call if there is an emergency and I told him I would be so angry if he does something dumb enough to require me to come back and pick him up.  Also praying for no injuries while we're gone.

So, Owen has been at camp for three days now, and we have been in Tennessee for almost 24 hours.  All-star games are supposed to be tonight, and have been relocated to Dalton, GA on turf fields due to rain.  It's supposed to keep raining through tomorrow, so we'll see if we actually get all of our pool games in on Thursday and Friday.  I was expecting hot, sunny, and humid.  So far, all we have is humid, cloudy and rainy.  More to come in our adventures...
