Another Fun-Filled Week

I hope I can get this done before the end of the day today. (didn't succeed, life is moving too fast) We are still riding the high from a successful weekend.  Owen won his bracket at district wrestling @ 125# and will move on to Regionals next week.  Gracie's Southern Boone basketball team won their district championship game again California, also on Saturday and their next round at sectionals is tonight.  They play Fatima again, which wasn't pretty the first go-round.  We're all hoping for a better outcome than two weeks ago!
Nick and Owen at district wrestling
I was with Gracie for choir and basketball, so couldn't go to Odessa with them, so there are not as many pictures as I usually get.  Nick did record the matches so i could watch them later, which was great!

Most of these wrestling pics are from the week before at North Callaway.  Owen won his bracket there, as well.  He only had 2 matches at North Callaway, but worth it to get some more wrestling time in.

First win

Nova came with us to keep Gracie company!

This is a great pic!  Love them all!

Next go...

I caught Nick looking on.

Looks like a pin, but I don't think it was...can't remember for sure.

2nd win of the day
This is the match Zach got to officiate for Owen.

This is from districts last weekend.
Like I mentioned, I was with Gracie for her activities while Owen was competing in Odessa last weekend.  I kept up on track wrestling, following his bracket and matches.  There were only 4 wrestlers, and the top four go on to Regionals.  Owen was 3-0, so has the top seed at regionals this weekend.  It looks like there are 8 in his Regional bracket, and the top 4 go on to state.  Pretty excited for him and hope he does great this weekend!

Nick is pretty important, too.
He was asked to officiate Class 1 & 2 boys and Class 1 girls state tournament.

Nova came to our house to celebrate wrestling being done.
She is so happy to eat again!  I sent this pic to her mom.

Choir contest
While Owen was competing at Districts, Gracie had choir contest in Versailles that morning.  She was in a girls small group and their chamber choir sang, as well.  It brought back a lot of memories from my high school choir/music activities.  After they were done singing, I brought Gracie back to Ashland so she could get to her shoot around by 10:30am.  Then the bus left for California for her game at 4:15.

District Basketball vs. California

Here we go... We knew this would be a good game and it sure was!  We beat California in the regular season, but they are a really good team and challenged us for the whole game.  So fun to see these girls play together!

Gracie coming off the bench!
She and one other girl were the only 2 that subbed in the entire game.
Our starters are phenomenal and work so hard!

The girls know that they have the win at this point just before the last play.

Nova has come to watch Gracie in as many competitions possible.
Love, love, love these two.

And love these two!!!!
Both district champs in the same day!!!

Sadie and Gracie... the 2 freshmen on the team.

Pretty happy girl.
What an honor to be part of this!

Final score of the district game
Southern Boone 58 - California 45
It felt a lot closer than 13 points, but free throws at the end put us ahead for good.  We were actually behind at one point in the 3rd quarter, I think.  What a surreal feeling to win conference, then win districts and go on to state sectionals.  I knew they could do it, but you just never know.  It has been so fun to watch them play this year and I just want it to keep going.  Watching these girls rise to the occasion and work so hard to get to the next level has been so impressive and unbelievable to watch.  They seem to each know their role on the team and support each other doing that.  That shows the high expectations from their coach and how he has instilled that value into them.  Gracie doesn't always get a lot of playing time, but when she goes in, she works so hard to be the best player and teammate that she can be.  She has learned so much this year and will continue to grow.  I'm so grateful for the positive people and environment this basketball program has offered her this year.  I never thought I would say this, but it has gone so fast and I want it to keep going (yes, after 4 months of it.)

It was a crazy busy weekend again and not much down time.  Even on Sunday, Gracie had softball practice in the afternoon and basketball open gym in the evening.  Owen got some rest and relaxation on Sunday at home after celebrating Saturday night.  it was a beautiful day and it felt good to get some work done at home.  Owen humored me for about an hour, "helping" me in the flower beds, getting rid of all the dead stuff from last fall.

The last couple days have been kind of a whirlwind, combining the everyday things that we do with the added basketball and wrestling events.  Monday evening after practice, the girls had a team dinner and the moms got together to make some fun things for the players and coaches.  It didn't take very long, but was fun.  Owen had track and wrestling practice.  He was still under 125 lbs (123 today); just have to maintain for a few more weeks.

We played in the state sectional game last night (16 teams remain), which was another intense game, the whole, entire game.  Most who read this already know... WE WON!  More to come on that!  What a ride it has been so far and more to come!  Only 8 teams left.  WOW.  Just breathe and enjoy it while it lasts.

Gonna have to add some patches to this
