School!
It has already been a month since school started for Gracie and Owen. I can't believe it! There have been very few setbacks overall and both of them have been able to attend since September 11. There was one week that we all had stuffed up noses and concerns about being sick, but that's all it amounted to. They have both been getting on the bus every morning and Owen rides home by himself everyday. Gracie has had practice after school, but her last week of softball is this week. She will move into basketball very quickly. Owen has completed his season of flag football. They did so much better this year than last year. They had a lot of fun.
Gracie's softball picture. She wants to put this in a frame instead of her school picture.
Gracie's first school team!
It's not quite the same as her competitive team, but she has a lot of fun playing with her friends.
First day of school!

Ruby had to tell her goodbye.
Owen doing school at home for the first 3 days
The fifth grade class had to stay home for the first 3 days of school due to a number of teachers in the elementary school being quarantined. Luckily no major sickness developed and they were able to start school on Friday 9/11. The school issued chromebooks to all of the 5th grades for that time so they could interact with their teachers from home.

Nick and Owen seeing Gracie off to 7th grade.
Nick was home school instructor for a couple days.
Gracie getting all of her softball stuff onto the bus so she can go to practice after school. Crazy that this was over 4 weeks ago and we will be moving into basketball in a couple short weeks.
Owen finally gets to ride the bus to school!
Waiting for the bus
Somebody's tired.
I think this might have been one of the first home softball games. The girls got to play on the high school field for about 1/2 of their games. Gracie is playing both games and has done more pitching than she has ever done. It's not her favorite thing to do, but she loves to play. Between the two teams, there are 3 pitchers and 3 catchers. Gracie is both. She has also gotten to play 1st base, 2nd base, and shortstop in some games.
Gracie's first at bat of middle school softball produced a 3-run homer. It was a nice start to the season. She is still doing well and typically gets on base every time. During some of the "B" games she has been asked to bat left-handed, which is a great challenge for her. During one of the games, she went 2 for 3 left handed. That was her only strike out so far. I think it was kind of fitting that she ended the season for her team by scoring the winning run in both games last night.
She was the last batter and in both games the other team's coach intentionally walked the batter before her (that batter hit a homerun against the same team the weekend before.) Both games, Gracie was able to score on her own hit. The first game was an in the park homerun. The second game was a triple and she scored on an overthrow to third. Both ended the game in a walk off.
Owen picked this out for school pictures. He ended up wearing something else.
Football
Owen has had another fun season of flag football. He is on a team with a great group of kids and coaches. They are fun to watch. He would still much prefer to play tackle football and is looking forward to the year that we let him. He is getting so much better at playing!
Catching a pass
Touchdown!
Pulling a flag
More softball
Like I mentioned, she has been pitching a lot more than we thought she would. I think I can count maybe 3 or 4 days that she has not pitched.
Here we go... I recognize this.
This is still her love, and she's still rocking the job.
Scoring some runs
And another run
More football!
Spending some time at Center
Nice pose Owen...I think he might be looking at me. :)
Getting ready to intercept the ball - he actually did this time!
I wish I would have been recording it, but this is a pretty good picture.

Mizzou Football!
We actually got to go to a game! However, one of us is missing. We are already entering the time in Gracie's life that she is choosing friends over family fun. We were able to get 4 tickets to the first home football game and she chose a sleepover for one of her friends. Owen was excited to take his friend, Knox, though. These two had a blast!
The boys watching football.
Owen and Knox... All smiles. Love these two.
FIRE!
We had a beautiful evening last Friday and we were all at home. We roasted hotdogs and s'mores over a small fire. I love nights like these. Fall is here.
Running again!
I have been trying to increase my mileage little by little again. I'm not completely pain free yet, and my body does not want to stretch the way it used to, but I feel like it's coming back. I'm running 4 days/week and trying to at least walk 2 other days. My long run right now is 5 miles, and I can do 3 pretty comfortably most days. I would like to work up to 20 miles per week again eventually. The good thing that has come from this is that I'm not hard on myself when I need to take a day off or when my pace is not great. I don't feel nearly as guilty as I used to. I was so happy the day that I hit 5 continuous miles of running again! Not a bad pace, either. I'll keep working it down. :)
