The Rest of August

So much more in August!  Immediately after we returned from Iowa, we froze corn...from about 8-11pm on Sunday evening.  Then we hit the ground running on Monday!

Cooking and freezing corn!
I think we have over 20 quarts!

And eating some!

More corn!
So glad we were able to get some while we were in Iowa!

Football Games!!!

Owen has started his fall season of flag football.  His team consists of all 4th graders, except one player.  His league division is 4-6th grade.  So....it's a learning season for his team.  He is having fun though!  This continues to be his love.  He is still playing a variety of positions and does not like playing quarterback, now that the defense can blitz.  I think it stresses him out a bit.

More work on the barn!

There have been about 2 whole days since July that we have been able to make time to work on this project.  Maybe this winter it will be enclosed?????  Owen likes to hang out in the rafters with Nick.

Hang on Owen!

I got them both to smile!

Both sides are now completed in the middle.
I think the next step will be to put the trusses up.

Middle School!!!!!

Gracie is now in middle school and had orientation, open house, and a lot of adjusting during the first week.  She seemed to take it all in stride and has been doing great!  She took her lock for her locker home one night so she could practice opening it.  She also has a lot of books that she now carries around and also has to take a gym bag for PE.  She has PE every day for the first quarter and then they switch to health.

She is also doing band this year and leaves her trombone at school most of the time.  The one time she brought it home, she forgot to take it back for two days straight.  BUT, she showed us how she can play "Hot Cross Buns" now.  Before school actually started, she was using youtube to learn how to play.

Ashland Rodeo

We attended the rodeo again this year.  I wasn't especially looking forward to it, but it was fun once we were there.  Gracie went with a group of friends this year and Owen found friends once we arrived.  It was actually a really nice night and wasn't terribly hot as it has been before.  We went on Friday this year and it didn't seem nearly as crowded as the Saturday night show has been for the past couple years.

Owen needs a new hat.  This one barely fits on his head.

Gracie and her friends at the rodeo

Gracie wanted to try driving the truck on the way home, so Nick let her give it a whirl.

Basketball

Gracie had one more tournament this summer.  I didn't get to see two of the games because I was working.  They won the first game, but lost the 2nd and 3rd.  They played up a grade level against girls going into 7th, so it was pretty challenging.  These pictures are from the 3rd game that I was able to get to.
#23 seems a bit taller than Gracie.  This team was pretty good.

They played really hard and Gracie loves playing with these girls.
It's a pretty good group.

Here they are.  Smiling even after the loss.

Birthdays!

Owen first
Owen had some boys out to play on his birthday.  Luckily the rain held off and they were able to play outside for most of the evening.  It was fun and he was a pretty happy boy.  Nick made pizzas and I made the cake. :)

This cutie is 9!

Celebrating with friends

Gracie and Owen went a little overboard with the whipped topping.

At least he's happy.

Again, maybe a little too much whipped cream.

Playing with his new Lego set.

First Day of School

Of course we have to document.  Gracie is entering 6th grade!  We have a middle schooler.  She was so excited the night before and didn't sleep much at all.  I have noticed that she has no problems going to sleep at night now.  I think she is a bit more worn out this year.

Owen is entering 4th grade.  He was also excited to go back to see friends, but I think he would prefer to have summer all year long.  Not because of the weather, but because he wouldn't have school.

Seems happy here, though.

Both of them together

Had to get a picture of Tom on the first day of school too!

Custer and Nutter are growing also.
Nutter is obsessed with shoes.  He drags them all over the garage.

Gracie's turn for a birthday!

Brand new catching gear thanks to joint effort from grandparents!
The chest protector is still a little big, so she's wearing her old one, but the mask and shin guards are definitely not shiny new anymore.

I think her face says it all.

More gifts

Gracie had friends out to help celebrate

More silly girls

They all sang to her.  It was great.

Annie, River and Kaia came to visit for a night!

We had a visitor for a couple days...

After one of Owen's football games, we came home to Mr. Doggo on our porch.  It took a while for him to allow us to get close to him, but he seemed to trust us after a little bit.  Nick called animal control and apparently we are out of their service area.  The humane society is also not open on the weekends/holidays, so we took care of him for a few days.  We took him in to Columbia after the holiday weekend and checked to see if he was chipped, which he wasn't.  He was in the lost and found for a week or so, but seems to be taken care of.  I think we did the right thing by taking him in to see if he already had a home.  He's a pretty nice dog, that I'm sure will be adoptable.

The kids gave him a few different names in the 3 days he was hanging out with us.
Chester, Stripe, Doggo
He made himself at home on our porch.

Nick and Owen taking him for a little stroll

Not a bad looking dog.

So, this takes us through Labor Day weekend, which was almost 3 weeks ago.  I have more catching up to do. :)  We have had more football games, softball games, and school stuff going on.  We're getting into the routine of the fall activities and have a lot more to look forward to!  I will post more as soon as I get a chance!
