I Guess We are Now All Tigers
Tigers!
Last week I had an interview with Academic Services for the Mizzou Athletics Department and did a day of job shadowing. I will start working June 6 as a mentor/tutor for the Enhanced Learning Program for student athletes at Mizzou. I am so excited to have a job and to work with students again. I will have 30 hour work weeks, so I won't have to have daycare for Gracie and Owen. My boss is awesome and it seems like the perfect opportunity for right now!
This is the building I will be working in. It's called the Mizzou Athletic Training Complex (MATC). This houses the academic services for student athletes, as well as their training room, dining area, and sports medicine facility. Students have access to computer labs, quiet study areas, tutors, a writing center, and sports psychologists in this building.
This is the main lobby of the building.
Owen with TJ. This is the children's version of Truman, Mizzou's mascot. It still feels a little like we're cheating on Cy, but Owen loves the tiger and followed him around for a while. I'm still getting used to the black and gold and being Tiger fans, but things are falling into place and it's finally starting to feel like a really good thing. I know...that whole patience thing.
Baseball and Softball!!!!!
Owen's first game. He did great!
I love watching these little guys! It's so much fun. I can't get Owen to wear long socks, though. He seems to like his pants hiked up, too. Oh, well. He loves it and has tons of fun. His coach is awesome and works really well with the boys.
He had a chance to try catching...Looking good!
Gracie's 1st game.
She will have double headers every Thursday night, which ends up being a long evening, but was fun, once I got past being nervous for her. Really....I had no idea that I could get nervous for a 7 year old. I don't think it should be like that. This is probably only a fraction of stress compared to what is coming. Her second game, I was better. However, she ended up pitching during that game, so that was a little stressful, too.
Gracie tried catching. She did great and seems to be able to stop a lot of balls. She also has a pretty good arm. Her coach gave her some catching gear to use during the season, which was pretty nice.
And pitching...she told me that she likes this the best. Crazy girl. She throws hard most of the time, just needs to keep working on the little things that improve consistency and accuracy. Nick has been helping with her team and helping her learn pitching drills. He's so good with the kids, both on her softball team and on Owen's baseball team.
Gracie is holding her own with the older girls and seems to love it. I think she is the youngest one on the team and there is another 8 year old I think. She got home on Saturday from her game and wanted to start practicing again.
Nick took the kids for a ride in the football helmet around the stadium.
River, Annie, and Chad came to visit on Saturday when we lit another bonfire. It was just about a perfect night and I'm so glad they came up. Mom also came up for the games during the day and it was good to see everyone.
Look at these two! Not sure what Owen is doing with his hands.

Making perfect smores...or burnt smores, just the way they like them.

Nick helped me with the front of our rental house on Mother's Day. I really have the best husband and kids in the world! The kids cleaned their rooms for me as a surprise when I got home from my run Sunday morning. (I know it's shocking that their room isn't normally spotless...along with the rest of the house. I mean, really, you'd think being unemployed would leave ample time for cleaning. Turns out I'd rather do other things...like scoop horse poop.)
Overall, we had a great weekend, and it's great to have activities in our schedule again. We got together with our neighbors Sunday afternoon and both kids and parents got to play.
The school year is winding down and there are a few end of the year activities left to attend. Gracie is trying out for the talent show this week. She wants to sing. I offered to give her background music to sing to, but she said that she just wanted to sing by herself. I love the confidence. Next week they have their field day at the school, which should be fun to watch. It's crazy that there are just over two weeks of school left, and then summer session starts a week after that.
Owen had a party last week for his student teacher's last day. He was very fond of Miss Petree.
This is a picture of them on her last day.
