Memorial Day Weekend

 On the boat

Owen on the beach

 Nick and Owen

Gracie on the tube

Memorial Day weekend was fun and exhausting at the same time.  Friday Nick went down to get his mom's boat from her while I enjoyed my first day off for the summer by doing homework for school.  Friday evening was spent getting ready for the weekend.

On Saturday, I did my long run in the morning and Nick got the boat ready to go for later in the afternoon.  The kids spent most of the day outside and then after Owen's nap we headed down to Saylorville for the rest of the afternoon/evening.  Our neighbors went with us.  All of the kids loved playing on the beach and going for a boat ride.  It was pretty windy, which made the water pretty rough, but we all had a good time.  The water was also a bit cold, but the kids did not seem to mind all that much.  Owen was even willing to play in it.  After we got back that night, we went to our neighbors' to have s'mores.

The next day Nick and the kids put up the tent in the morning and then we were off to the lake again with Tony and Bix this time.  Owen slept in the truck for awhile while Nick took the boys and Gracie tubing.  Gracie even tried it with Tony!  Wish I could have seen that!  The kids did ok, but were pretty exhausted by the time we went home.  They enjoyed jumping off the back of the boat a long as dad was there to catch them.  Owen did not even hesitate to jump.  Gracie also figured out again that her life jacket will hold her up so she won't sink.  It's amazing what can be forgotten from just a year ago.  Owen also likes wearing his life jacket and asks to put it on just to wear around the house.

Josh and Julie also met us out at the lake later in the afternoon and came to our house to also go camping.  I don't know if it really counts as camping, but everyone slept in a tent on Sunday night.  We had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows again.  The kids did great sleeping in the tent.  I wasn't too concerned about Gracie, but Owen only rolled off of his matress a couple times without really waking up.  It even stormed during the night and the kids slept through it.

On Memorial Day we went to a BBQ at a friend's house for lunch.  Then both kids slept for 3 hours in the afternoon.  They were pooped after all of the weekends events.  That means that mom and day got a nap, too!  We had a calm evening and it was nice to just relax.

This week has gone by quickly and I've been doing a lot of homework and other work around the house.  I've been trying to take Jack on at least one run and a walk everyday, but it's hard to get the motivation to get up some mornings.  He does well most of the time on a leash, but still runs over and nips at the kids, which drives me crazy.  He has chewed up 2 of Gracie's Barbies, now and there are teeth marks in the window sill in our living room, which I'm pretty sure are not from the kids.  I'm trying to be patient with him, but it is like having another toddler in the house, except he is 70 pounds.  No matter how much he annoys the kids, they still seem to love him.  They are so resilient and forgiving.  I need to take a lesson from them.

Anyway...Annie is coming this weekend and the kids are staying with Grandma Deb Saturday night.  Should be fun for them!
