Almost there...
Here we are in the last week! I am looking forward to Wednesday. The past month has been hot and not fun for me. A lot has happened since my last post and I'm sure we will have a busy couple months ahead of us.
The weekend of Aug 9, we went to a wedding and then on that Sunday, I ended up in the hospital for the afternoon because of bad muscles spasms in my back which caused contractions. They ended up giving me some pain killers and the contractions stopped and I got to go home. It wasn't a very fun afternoon, but everything ended up ok.
Then on Wednesday all the flooding began. So it is a good thing that the new baby decided to wait a couple more weeks. Hilton Coliseum had 11 feet of water in it and Nick's office there had about 3 feet. So much stuff was ruined and Nick has been working almost nonstop for about 2 weeks. Luckily Nick got some things out of his office before the water got to them. When I first saw the pictures of Hilton and some other places in Ames, it was surreal and very sad. I know how much time and work Nick puts into his job and how much job means to him. It is going to take a long time to recover from all the damage. Nick said they are hoping to have the arena ready for the first women's basketball game November 4, but the offices still will not be done yet.
Gracie and I have gone to Nick's mom's the past two weekends since he has been working. She loves to go there to play with all the kids and there is definitely enough to do to keep her busy all day. Last weekend Nick came home on Sunday afternoon and we took Gracie swimming for a couple hours. She loved it and was very happy to see her Daddy after not seeing him all week.
I started work again on Tuesday and the students came back to school on Thursday. I have been very busy so far at school, but that's a good thing. I like being back to work and meeting with kids again. It's crazy that I will be off agin for 6 weeks. Nick has still been busy with work this week, but has been home a couple of evenings, which has been nice.
We also had to buy a new refrigerator this week because the freezer in our old one wasn't working right anymore. The icemaker started putting out water without making ice cubes, so 1/3 of the freezer was a block of ice and it was also leaking water everywhere.
On a good note, the plumbing for our upstairs bathroom is in and we have the shower in. We had planned on getting it completely done by the time we had Baby Britton #2, but that has been put on hold for now. It has been painted since I took these pictures, but we still have to put the floor in, trimwork, and all the rest of the fixtures. We have all the stuff, but just haven't had time to do it. I wish I was able, but now is probably not a good time for me to be trying to get a toilet or vanity up the stairs and hooked up to the plumbing.
Nick and I went out to eat and shopping on Friday night while Gracie stayed with a babysitter. We got a lot accomplished and it was nice to have a night out to ourselves. Now just two more days of work and then more fun begins. Gracie is still doing well, but I think she has no idea what's coming. I hope she likes her brother!
